Food From The Family

If there is one thing I love to eat it is guacamole.  Having married into a fantastic family from Guatemala I have learned that homemade guacamole is the best and every time I get into New York my family makes it for me.

The first time I tried to make my own I thought I was doing well by simply putting all the ingredients into a blender and blending away.  Of course, my wife will never  let me live that down but I still thought it was the easy way to get it done.

So now that I have learned the right way let me show you the wonderful guacamole that Sandra, my sister-in-law, makes.

To serve 6-8 or just me here is what you will need:

7 Avocados
1 Large Onion
Salt to taste - Some people like to use Garlic Salt
Oregano to taste - Usually about 2 tablespoons
2 or 3 limes, once again it's what tastes good to you or me if you are making it for me

First slice the onion into small pieces.  Real, real small pieces

Now you cut the avocados into half and start putting them into our mixing bowl.  Take your time and get all the great taste you can out of them.

Once you have the avocados placed into the bowl, mix the onions and avocado together by using a fork. After getting the avocado and onions mixed together really well, add the salt and oregano.  Next, roll the limes on the table to help loosen up the juices. Squeeze the juice of the limes into the mixture, lets try to keep the seeds out of the mixture.  A trick to keeping the guacamole looking green is to place at least one of the seeds into the bowl. This helps stop the guacamole from turning brown.

Now once again mix everything together as well as you can. Now you have everyone else leave the area and have some great Guacamole all to your self.
